"Former lightweight champ Beau Jack broke Johnny Bratton's jaw last night to score a TKO in the 8th round of their scheduled 10 round bout at the Chicago Stadium before 13,066 fans. The Chicago slugger stepped back suddenly at 2:47 of the session and announced to referee John Behr: "My jaw is broken. I can't go on." Behr sent the fighters to their corners and raised Jack's right glove in victory." -International News Service
- Dr. John Dramis, physician for the Illinois Boxing Commission, announced after a post fight examination that Bratton's jaw was indeed fractured.
