"Ben Villaflor knocked down South Korean challenger Kim Hyun Chi three times in the 9th round Friday night and retained the WBA junior lightweight title with a 15-round split decision. The champion dropped Kim with a series of punches to the body and head in the 9th round. The challenger took a mandatory eight-count and then was knocked down twice more before the round ended, but Villaflor could not finish the job. He was unable to follow up in the next round, and by the 11th, Kim pressed the attack and opened a cut over Villaflor's left eye. Kim was the aggressor through much of the fight but took a hard left hook to the face and was staggered in the 14th round. He was also cut under the right eyebrow in the 13th." -Associated Press
