Benjamin 'Kid' Perez
Name: Benjamin Perez
Alias: Kid
Birth Name: Benjamin Perez
Hometown: Tunis, Tunisia
Birthplace: Tunis, Tunisia
Pro Boxer: Record
Benjamin 'Kid' Perez was the older brother of the former World Flyweight Champion Victor (Young) Perez. Started boxing sometime in 1923 along with his brother Victor (Young) Perez at Club Maccabi in Tunis under the guidance of a famous Tunisian boxing trainer named Joe Guez. Other notable fighters who came out of this club at that time were Billy Smadja and Edmond Zerbib.
Became flyweight champion of North Africa on April 2nd, 1928 defeating Jean Soler by KO in the tenth round.
To date this was Kid Perez's most significant victory in a boxing ring. Unlike his brother Victor "Young" Perez who remained in France after the Nazi invasion--it seems likely that Benjamin "Kid" Perez survived the war because apparently he had returned to Tunisia before the Nazi invasion of France. The Nazi's were never able to carry out the ethnic cleansing in Tunisia that they were able to carry out in Central Europe and Russia. A number of French speaking sources speak of a "Kid Perez" who became a trainer after World War 2 ended. This seems to have been Benjamin "Kid" Perez.
His fight record is considered very incomplete.
