"Veteran middleweight Bennie Briscoe floored southpaw Emeterio Villanueva twice and went on to score a 5th round TKO Monday night when Villanueva was not allowed to continue. Dr. Alfred Ayala of the State Athletic Commission stopped the bout before the bell for the 5th round. Villanueva had been cut above both eyebrows and his vision was impaired by the blood dripping into it. Briscoe was baffled by Villanueva's style in the 1st round but rapidly went to work with a body attack. Briscoe, 160, caught Villanueva, 159, of Mexico City, with a right hook in the 3rd round to send him down for the mandatory eight-count. Briscoe floored his opponent again in the 4th with a straight right to the jaw." -United Press International
