Bennie Briscoe 159 lbs beat Tony Chiaverini 155 lbs by TKO at 1:05 in round 8 of 10

"Bennie Briscoe, 35, put a damper on the world title hopes of Tony Chiaverini, 25, Friday night with a punishing 8th round TKO. Briscoe used a devastating series of combinations to give Chiaverini the worst beating of his career. Although he also landed numerous punches, Chiaverini's hands swelled up in the 2nd round and was unable to punch with any authority in any of the later rounds. A natural right-hander, Briscoe adopted a southpaw style in the 3rd round to counter the left-handed Chiaverini and wore the younger fighter down with shots over a steadily drooping guard. Chiaverini was red-faced and bloody when Briscoe battered him to the ropes at 1:05 into the 8th round and referee Eloda Morrison called the fight." -Associated Press

  • Chiaverini's left eye was cut in the 2nd round and his right eye was closed in the 8th.
