Ex-Middleweight champion Bernard Hopkins, 44, won every round as the busier fighter by outjabbing and outworking a younger opponent all night. Ornelas hung tough, surviving the twelve rounds while taking a lopsided beating. Hopkins, for his part, scored his 50th win, and stated after the bout that he still hoped for the opportunity to fight a rematch against Roy Jones Jr. in 2010 despite Jones's TKO loss to Danny Green in Australia earlier in the evening, which Hopkins watched via delayed telecast after his bout ended.
