"Venezuela's Betulio Gonzalez retained his WBA flyweight crown Saturday night with a 12th round knockout of Martin Vargas of Chile. A left hook by Gonzalez sent Vargas to the mat for a count of five in the 11th round. Only seconds into the 12th round, Gonzalez knocked the Chilean down for another count of five. Vargas rebounded valiantly, but Gonzalez finished him off with a vicious right. As the Chilean crumpled into the ropes and slid to the mat, taking the full count of ten, his trainers threw in a towel to make sure the fight did not continue." -Associated Press
