"The most sensational ending of the five bout fight program at the War Memorial Auditorium last night was when Billy Backus, 140, who seemed to be trailing in the scoring, whipped over a whistling left hand to the chin of Dave Hilton, 138 3/4, of Edmunston, N.B., and the Canadian was out like a light at 2:35 of the 7th round in the co-feature 8-rounder. Backus, a Canastota southpaw, seemed to be a sucker for a right hand. Fortunately for Backus, Hilton didn't seem to have overwhelming power in his right, so Backus kept coming back for more. Billy was taking a boxing lesson in the 7th when he threw the left hand that flattened Hilton. Hilton was also down twice in the 5th, but bounced back strongly to cut Billy's eye in the 6th." -Syracuse Post-Standard
