Bill Maich won the Ontario amateur heavyweight championship April 24, 1933 knocking out Stan Duke of St Catherines in 2:07 of round two. [Future NBA Featherweight champ Jackie Callura fought in the same tournament] Bill won the Canadian amateur heavyweight championship at age 22, and represented Canada at the 1934 British Empire Games in Wembley Arena, England, winning silver.

December 1934 won heavyweight title at western New York Golden Gloves tournament. Turned pro a few months later in Buffalo in a 6 round undercard bout. According to a report in the Toronto Daily Star, sometime before September 21, 1936 Maich lost by knockout to Big Boy Brackey at Buffalo, NY.
