According to an article with a headline, "Ex-Boxer In Alimony Contest," in the September 7, 1947 edition of the Truth (Sydney, New South Wales, Australia) on the Trove website, William Ewart "Billy" Tingle was in a divorce court to oppose his ex-wife's application for a writ of attachment against him for allegedly being behind his alimony and maintenance payments amounting to a total of 1,143 pounds, five shillings and 9 pence. During 1936, Tingle remarried and started working on a regular basis for the Shanghai Municipal Council until the occupation of Shanghai, China by the Japanese during World War II. Tingle and his second wife lived on funds provided by the British Residents Association until he was interned on March 1, 1943. He was released on October 1, 1946. Earlier in 1947, Tingle's ex-wife had married a man whom she had lived with since 1940. After that revelation, she accepted Tingle's offer of 75 pounds to settle the case.
According to the Ring Side Seat column by Neville Davidson in the May 21, 1953 edition of the Courier-Mail (Brisbane, Queensland, Australia) on the Trove website, "Billy Tingle, former Australian flyweight champion, dropped in from Hong Kong this week." Also according to the column, "he is now a successful businessman, and physical director of Hong Kong schools."
