The March 6, 1930 Cincinnati Enquirer reported that Weitzel was a member of the "Shingwalk" tribe along with his brother Frankie Weitzel. No such tribe exists, though there is a famous tribal chief by the name of Shingwauk, who was Ojibwe, a First Nations tribe in Southern Ontario.
