According to an item in the January 21, 1919 edition of the San Francisco Chronicle on Newspapers.com, Young France (also known as "Young Fritz" and "Earl France" during his professional boxing career) "wants to come to San Francisco and box before some clubs here." He was coming off a win over Joe McGurk in Bakersfield, California and had beaten Phil Salvadore in Vernon, California. Sailor Billy Wilson of Goat Island said that his brother (Young France)"could deliver the goods and only needs a chance."
