Swedish light middleweight hope Bo Hogberg knocked out British Dennis Read after 1:22 of the first round. A lightning left hook did the trick. Reads's gumshield fell out. While the referee counted, a dazed Read crawled around the canvas looking in vain for the lost item.

This was Hogberg's 20th win in 21 fights. The Swedish newspaper Dagens Nyheter felt that Hogberg now was in the process of " wiping out the tracks from his disasterous KO- loss to Harry Scott one year ago "
