"Heavyweight Dick Richardson of Wales upset Bob Baker of Pittsburgh in a 10 round bout Wednesday night. Baker never used his weight to advantage. He was hard to hurt, but he did little punching of any consequence. Baker looked lethargic from the start and Richardson went in with both hands as early as the second round." -Associated Press

• Richardson was originally scheduled to fight Cleveland Williams on July 2nd, but Williams claimed a 'message from beyond' told him not to go through with the fight and returned home with Bob Baker filling in last minute on the rescheduled date. When Williams returned home Dr. Arthur Moers of the Texas State Boxing Commission pronounced Williams sick with a congested head and a sore throat. Moreover, Williams' manager Bill Gore claimed that Williams was bed-ridden for 96 hours before and after the July 2nd date and would have never let him fight despite Williams' 'message'. The British Boxing Board of Control, however, barred Williams from fighting in the U.K. the day after the Richardson-Baker bout.
