- Date: 1957-09-09
- Location: Maple Leaf Gardens, Toronto, Ontario, Canada
- Referee: Jackie Burke
In Baker's bio this fight is apparently regarded as a major victory over the "future" Canadian heavyweight champion. However, it should be noted there that Chuvalo was a virtual novice of some 13 fights when they met.
"Bob Baker of Pittsburgh, won a unanimous 10 round decision over Toronto heavyweight George Chuvalo Monday night before 5,000 fans at Maple Leaf Gardens. Baker won the nod of the two judges and referee Jackie Burke despite a sensational finish by young Chuvalo. Chuvalo opened up with a two-fisted barrage in the 8th round that had the Pittsburgh veteran on the verge of a knckout. Baker, however, weathered the storm and Chuvalo, fighting in his first 10 rounder, had shot his bolt. Baker bulit up a big advantage in the early rounds with his greater experience. He forced the fight and rarely allowed Chuvalo to get in close enough to land any damaging punches." -Canadian Press
- Chuvalo was cut under the left eye from a right hook in the 3rd round.
