"Bob Baker, 195, hard-hitting Pittsburgh heavyweight, scored a TKO in the 5th round over Walter Hafer, 196, of Maysville, Ky., at the Gardens in Pittsburgh last night to win his 10th straight pro fight. It was the 7th KO for the former Golden Gloves champion. The time was 2:41 of the 5th round." -International News Service
- Hafer was down for a nine-count in both the 2nd and 3rd rounds. He was down again in the 4th but the bell saved him at the count of three. He was down twice in the 5th, and, although he barely beat the count the second time, referee Freddie Mastrean had seen enough and stopped the fight.
