Buckles displayed little except the "ability to absorb punishment. Time and again Buckles would go down for the count, but he was always game and, while it was through the timely intervention of the bell on several occassions, which allowed him to go through the bout without being counted out, still the rest between the rounds was sufficient for the Omaha fighter to recuperate and he was always willing to mix had when he had sufficient strength to do so."
