Williams was knocked down three times in the 12th round. The United Press Scorecard read 9-1-1 for Montgomery through 11 rounds. Montgomery had pounded Williams to the body early in the bout, and taken the fight out of him by the 6th round, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer.
"Bobcat Bob Montgomery, 137, blacked out promising Ike Williams of Trenton, N.J., last night at 2:49 of the last round of a 12-round bout to blast his way over the first crucial hurdle on a comeback trail towards his lost lightweight title. Williams, 131 1/2, came out strong in the 1st round with sharp blows to Montgomery's head and body. But he wilted toward the middle of the 2nd round and the AP scorecard gave the former champion this and every other round thereafter. Williams was groggy from body punches at the end of the 3rd round and fought almost in a daze until Montgomery floored him for the first time soon after the opening of the last round. Williams took a count of eight, then staggered to his feet, only to be dropped again for a count of nine. Williams stood again against Montgomery's driving attack for thirty seconds, then sagged over the ropes for the count of ten. He was out for nearly four minutes after the bout had ended." -Associated Press
