"Harry Matthews, boxing's latest sensation, sought a title shot with light heavyweight champion Joey Maxim today following his decisive victory over Irish Bob Murphy. The ex-G.I. from Seattle showed 6,922 fans in MSG some of the finest boxing seen around here in many years last night. Matthews knocked Murphy right out of the race with a magnificently rounded attack that all but blew Irish Bobby out of the Garden. There were no knockdowns but Matthews won the unanimous 10-round decision handily. Matthews swept through the first four rounds with a withering body barrage. Irish Bob finally got going in the 6th and continued his surge through the 7th and 8th rounds. But Matthews, who appeared tired during those two heats, came back strong in the last two to all but knock out his rugged rival." -Associated Press
