Bob Satterfield 185 lbs lost to John Holman 201 lbs by TKO at 2:52 in round 8 of 10
- Date: 1956-01-11
- Location: Chicago Stadium, Chicago, Illinois, USA
- Referee: Bernie Weismann
"Bob Satterfield's chin got in his way again last night, keeping him once more from crossing the threshold to heavyweight title contention. Johnny Holman, 201, catapulted three long rights to Satterfield's sensitive button. Satterfield, outweighed by 17 pounds, went down for a nine-count in the 2nd round of the nationally televised fight at Chicago Stadium, for eight in the 3rd and finally the scheduled 10 round bout was stopped in the 8th. Holman's right in the 8th flattened the 13-5 favorite. But Satterfield staggered up just at the count of 10 with eight seconds to go before the bell. Referee Bernie Weissman stopped it, giving Holman a TKO." -Associated Press
- Holman had been knocked out by Satterfield on two previous occasions.
- On the basis of this win, the IBC promised Holman a February 17, 1956 date in Madison Square Garden against either Nino Valdes or the winner of the February 3rd bout between Bob Baker and Hurricane Jackson (won by Jackson). He did not fight in the Garden on that date, however, he did fight Baker on May 9th in Miami in an official eliminator for the vacant heavyweight title.
