Bob Scrivans moved to Philadelphia from his native South Carolina after elementary school. After graduating from John Partram High School he started boxing in the Police Atheletic League as a middleweight. He enlisted in the Air Force in 1952 and won numerous Air Force Titles and won 43 out of 50 amateur fights. He was honorably discharged from the Air Force in April 1956.
