Areal's manager George Burns said the listing of the fighter's last name as Areal was the result of a mistake. Burns said he didn't know the proper name, apart from that it was 'halfway between a sneeze and a hiccaugh.' When writing promoter Joe Herman he listed his fighter as 'a real fighter.' The promoter mistook the words 'a real' for Bobby's last name and the name of Bobby Areal was born.
