Boyd defeated Lausse who had a streak of 34 consecutive victories between 1952-1956.
"Long-reaching Bobby Boyd won a split 10 round decision over rugged Eduardo Lausse Wednesday night. Boyd, staggered several times by the Argentine's vicious left hooks, piled up his edge with a harpooning left jab and head work. In fact, Charley Johnston, manager of Lausse, inferred that Boyd used his head so well he butted open an angry gash between Eduardo's eyes in the 3rd round. Lausse was a bleeding, harrassed fighter thereafter. But he got Boyd in trouble at times only to have Boyd swarm back in savage rallies. In the 4th round, Lausse connected with a solid right to the chin. It looked as if Boyd caught it off balance. He went down and the referee started counting after Bobby had bounced to his feet. It went as a knockdown, although Boyd later insisted it was a slip. Boyd proved himself a classy, seasoned campaigner and one of the best middleweights around." -Associated Press

- "An 8 ounce glove couldn't have opened a cut in a place like that. It was a butt. And the jarring effect from it held my boy back enough for two rounds to effect the outcome." -Charley Johnstone, Lausse's manager, complaining that it was a butt that opened the cut on Lausse.
