"Bobby Boyd, with six straight victories, stayed on his road up the middleweight ladder today after getting past Italo Scortichini's troublesome crouching style. The lanky Chicago fighter turned in a unanimous decision over Scortichini in a 10-round bout at the St. Louis Arena last night. Boyd, who moves around the ring easily with his height, was bothered by the Italian fighter's squatting style. Boyd's co-manager James DiVito said he'd never seen a boxer fight from so low a crouch and said Boyd was instructed to just stay in and punch. There were no knockdowns and neither fighter was marked." -Associated Press
- Unofficial AP scorecard - 55-45 Boyd
- Boyd was penalized the 7th round due to a low blow.
Post-fight comment
- "Scortichini can make any good fighter look bad. You can't knock out a man who's in there just to keep from getting KO'd." -James DiVito, Boyd's co-manager
