Bobby Brandt, a red-headed socker whose KO punch made him a crowd pleaser.

This hard punching "Pennsylvania Dutchman", from the Kensington section of Philadelphia, a truckdriver who took up boxing after a high school athletic career that saw him star in both football and soccer. As an amateur he scored only four kayoes in winning nine of his eleven bouts.

Turned pro on April 26, 1952, he kayoed Billy Williams in one round. In his next bout he was stopped himself in the first round. Since then he won nine straight knockout wins and carried on as a popular kayo winner, including a technical knockout win over the prospect Joey Rowan. Losing some fights on points decisions, however, he was never stopped again.

A whicked puncher with either hand, the six foot, strawberry blond, started out as a light-heavyweight, but growed steadily to a full fledged heavy. Among his kayo victims in addition to Rowan were: Bill Lewis, Don Alva, Jan Henri, Bob Shannon, Paul Johnson, Dick Lynch, Jimmy Ayres and Paul Moody.

A real gone hep-cat, Bobby loved to listen to hot music and owned a large collection of Jazz records, mostly Dixieland. His ambition when he retired from the ring was to open a restaurant and hire the best jazz band he could find.
