"Joe Miceli clamored today for admission to the middleweight championship tournament on the basis of his upset, split decision over Bobby Dykes of Miami, Fla., Wednesday night. Miceli was the aggressor all the way and battered Dykes with his pet punch often enough to get the votes of one judge and the referee. The lanky Dykes was forced onto the defense in the opening seconds of the fight as Miceli rushed in with that strange left hand punch, best described as a combination of a hook and an uppercut. Miceli piled up a lot of points in the early sessions as his punch and aggressiveness confused the stand-up-straight Miamian. Dykes started to use his own right hand effectively in the later rounds. That strong finish earned him the vote of one judge. There were no knockdowns." -United Press
