"Detroit's Lester Felton kept his hopes for a shot at the welterweight title alive last night by pounding out a unanimous decision over Bobby Dykes. Felton's victory avenged a defeat by the Austin, Tex., fighter last April, but the moderately dull scrap didn't increase his rating too much. The Felton camp had promised a fast knockout, but the Detroiter followed his customary habit of striking with quick rights to win points and then retreating from danger. The Texan appeared winded and out of condition throughout the 10-round bout. He was obviously tired at the end of the scrap, while Felton seemed fresh. There were no knockdowns, although both fighters offered a flurry of punching in the last two rounds." -United Press
- Bobby Dykes was a substitute for Ike Williams who begged off claiming a heavy cold.
- Lightweight champion Ike Williams incurred a banishment from fighting in Michigan due to twice pulling out of a bout with Felton. The first time claiming a hand injury and in this fight for the aforementioned cold. He resolved this by finally meeting Felton on June 2nd.
