Bobby Lee of Hawaii was appointed President of the World Boxing Association in early 1973. Lee previously served as the head of the Hawaii Territorial (later State) Boxing Commission. Lee, originally from Maui, was an amateur boxer in Hawaii during the late 1930s and early 1940s, boxing as a welterweight. He competed at the 1939 National AAU tournament as a lightweight, and lost on a technical knockout to eventual winner Georgie Toy in the semi-finals.
