"Bobby Valdez, San Diego, world's 6th ranked featherweight, withstood a gallant challenge by Ray Coleman, Las Vegas, last night to capture a unanimous 10-round decision in the main event at the Silver Slipper Ballroom. But Valdez, 126 1/2, knew he was in a fight as he bled from the nose and mouth. His face, chest and trunks were covered with blood in the late rounds. Coleman, 127 1/2, put Valdez down in the 1st round with a hard, short right, but Valdez was up by the count of two. He took the mandatory eight count while on his feet. Coleman was down twice in the 4th round, from a furious body attack by his foe. The Las Vegas fighter, who tired in the middle rounds, rallied and gave Valdez everything he wanted in the late rounds." Las Vegas SUN
