Bobo Olson 166 lbs beat Joey Giambra 161 lbs by UD in round 10 of 10

"Joey Giambra was in line today for a shot at the middleweight championship on the strength of last night's masterful performance against titlist Carl (Bobo) Olson. The young Army private, who dropped a unanimous decision to Olson in the Cow Palace ring, was given assurance he'd get a title date. Giambra was sharp, especially with his left hand in the early going, but the champion's experience gained him the nod. Time and again Olson tied up Giambra on the ropes, scoring with his body punching and nullifying Giambra's hook." -Associated Press

  • Unofficial AP scorecard - 55 1/2 - 54 1/2 Olson
  • Unofficial UP scorecard - 56-54 Olson
  • Any promises by the IBC for a title opportunity for Giambra was academic, as Olson lost his title to Sugar Ray Robinson in his next bout.
