Bout Summary

Jennings looked to move around the ring and work from a distance with a jab in the opening round. Early in Round 2, a flurry opened a cut over the left eye of Liakhovich, who struggled to find his range and looked sluggish against the more athletic Jennings. Jennings found success in Round 3 with power shots that slipped past the guard of his opponent. A combination in the final seconds of the round caught Liakhovich, forcing him to tie up. The two fighters exchanged power shots with no regard for defense in the opening of Round 3. Jennings outworked his opponent and landed nicely to the body in the round. Jennings had a strong 5th Round hurting Liakhovich with a right uppercut early and backing him up with a left hand late in the round. A right uppercut snapped back the head of Liakhovich at 2:00 of Round 7. Liakhovich, who was becoming easier to find with power punches, began bleeding from the nose in the round. Following the round, trainer Eddie Mustafa Muhammad advised his fighter to show something or he would stop the fight as his man had taken some damage. A combination in the final seconds of Round 8, sent Liakhovich backward and into the ropes. Action was paused prior to the start of Round 9, to allow the doctor to view Liakhovich. Jennings battered Liakhovic, whose continued to bleed from the eye and nose, in the final minute of Round 9. Following the round, Eddie Mustafa Muhammad immediately signaled on the ring apron that he wanted the bout stopped as Liakhovich had taken too much punishment. No complaint from Liakhovich as the ringside doctor concurred. Liakhovich had taken a bad beating in the ninth.
