Buddy Baer 244 lbs beat Abe Simon 250 lbs by TKO at 2:38 in round 3 of 6

  • Date: 1937-08-30
  • Location: Yankee Stadium, The Bronx, New York, USA
  • Referee: Arthur Donovan

"In the preliminary bout to the main event, Buddy Baer of Livermore, Calif., met Abe Simon of New York. Baer won by a TKO in the 3rd round of their scheduled six round bout. The 1st round was a bloody affair, and Baer himself was on the verge of a knockout. In this round, Simon, 250, belted Max Baer's little brother, who weighed 243, with everything he had, and Baer barely survived the round. In the 2nd round, however, Baer made Simon's mouth a bloody mess. In the 3rd round, Baer floored Simon with a hard right. As Simon reeled about after rising, the referee stopped the fight and declared Baer the winner." -Associated Press
