Bunny Grant 138 lbs beat Alfredo Urbina 138 lbs by PTS in round 10 of 10

"Bunny Grant, Jamaica's British Empire lightweight champion, barely cleared a big hurdle at the National Stadium last Saturday night. He beat Mexico's No. 6 ranked Alfredo Urbina, but did not show his usual sparkle. Grant started off strongly and had the crowd with him as he piled up points; but faded in the last few rounds. Grant ended the fight with boos from the crowd ringing in his ears. Grant started off speedily against Urbina, jabbing and keeping the Mexican at long range. For the early rounds that was the set pattern of the fight. Realizing that a knockout was now his only hope, Urbina raced out for the 7th and waded into Grant, who refused to back an inch and started mixing with the Mexican slugger, but Urbina was in his element. In the final frame Urbina made a grandstand finish that had Grant on the defensive and obviously swayed the crowd, who forgot the Jamaican's dominance in the first six rounds." -The Kingston Gleaner

  • Unofficial Gleaner scorecard - 98-95 Grant
