Bunny Grant vs. Lauro Salas
Lauro Salas 137 lbs lost to Bunny Grant 135 lbs by RTD in round 8 of 10
- Date: 1961-03-04
- Location: Sabina Park, Kingston, Jamaica
"Bunny Grant had no trouble battering lightweight Lauro Salas into submission and forced him to quit after eight rounds. Grant's victory was ridiculously easy. Salas, who won the lightweight title on his second attempt in 1952, appeared to have the weight of 15 years of campaigning, nearly 200 fights and all his 32 years on his shoulders. He took all Grant had to offer without returning any of his own artillery and eventually decided that eight rounds of punishment was about all that he was prepared to take. He not only quit the fight, but decided to quit boxing as well as he announced his retirement. Grant could have spared the 4,000 spectators the spectacle of watching a former champ look so helpless for nearly a half hour. Why he chose to throw all his punches to Salas' rock-like head instead of his much more vulnerable body will never be understood." -The Kingston Gleaner
