Famed basketball player Darryl Dawkins claimed in an interview after his NBA finals fight with Maurice Lucas that Candy McDaniels was his uncle and taught him how to fight. McDaniels was indeed the half-brother of Dawkins's mother. Most of his career he was promoted on all black shows in segregated Florida which were put on by "Blind Babe" Lancaster an African-American promoter.
