"Dave Sands, Australian triple champion, edged out Carl Olson, Hawaiian middleweight, in a 12 round bout before 12,000 in Sydney Stadium Monday night. Sands, who holds his country's middleweight, light heavyweight and heavyweight titles as well as the British Empire middleweight championship, floored Olson in the 1st round. Olson leaped up immediately but had to take the compulsory eight count. It was the only knockdown of the fray. The Aussie battler led through the early rounds but Olson rallied in the last half. The Hawaiian hurt Sands with a solid left hook and a right to the chin in the 8th frame." -Associated Press
