Bobo Olson 162 lbs beat Tommy Harrison 167 lbs by UD in round 10 of 10

"Carl (Bobo) Olson, 162, of San Francisco, announced his readiness to meet Sugar Ray Robinson for the world's middleweight title today after his unanimous decision last night over youthful Tommy Harrison of Los Angeles. But Olson's defeat of the 20-year-old rookie in the featured 10-rounder at the Legion Stadium, was considerably short of the class he will need to unseat Sugar Ray on March 13th at the Cow Palace in Daly City. Olson failed to floor his opponent, though twice during the fast-moving bout he had Harrison in trouble. Harrison, 167, carried the fight to his 23-year-old rival, but was unable to land squarely on the shifty Olson. On the other hand, Harrison's jaw was an easy target for Olson's long right hand and his mid-section suffered in close quarters. Harrison was still going strong in the 10th round and won it by a shade with an aggressive attack that seldom connected with its intended target." -United Press

  • The title bout with Sugar Ray Robinson cited in the article was already signed before Olson's encounter with Harrison and it did come off on the March 13th date. However, the venue was changed from the Cow Palace to the San Francisco Civic Auditorium.
