"Bobo Olson conclusively proved his superiority last night in a nationally televised bout at Kezar Pavilion when he pounded out a unanimous 10 round decision over Wayne Thornton, Ring Magazine's 2nd ranked contender. Thornton tossed far more punches over the route than did Olson. But most of them landed on arms, shoulders or on the top of the head, while Olson got in good, clean shots. Thornton suffered a slight nick under his left eye in the 1st round and later bled from his nose, while Olson was cut over his left eye." -Oakland Tribune
- Unofficial Oakland Tribune scorecard - 6-2 Olson
- Light heavyweight champ Willie Pastrano was Olson's original opponent in a non-title 10 rounder but withdrew due to surgery.
