His nickname The Cat is often thought to be for having nine lives but it's actually the initials of his name (Carl Adrian Thompson). Adrian is actually his real forename but he changed it to Carl as he thought Adrian didn't sound tough enough.

In a podcast interview with Tris Dixon in 2020 (Boxing Life Stories) Carl admitted he lied about his age when he turned pro and he made himself two years younger. His actual year of birth is 1962 not 1964 as recorded with the BBBoC (British Boxing Board of Control)

Carl never had an amateur boxing fight.

Muay Thai (Thaiboxing) Champion. In the same podcast interview Carl said he only had around 6 Muay Thai fights in total. Lost in 1987 and 1989 Muay Thai world title fights against croatian Branko Cikatic.
