"Carl Williams moved into position for an eventual heavyweight title shot Monday night by taking a unanimous 12 round decision over former champion Trevor Berbick. Williams piled up points with an effective left jab enroute to a lopsided decision in a lackluster elimination bout between the IBF's top two heavyweight contenders. Berbick, the former WBC heavyweight champ picked up the pace midway through the fight, but Williams managed to land the most effective shots against Berbick's mauling tactics. Williams was cut next to the right eye in the 6th round, but the cut bled infrequently and didn't appear to bother him." -Associated Press
