HE'S STEPPING AWAY. Carlos González Hinojosa has decided to resign as president of the Reynosa Boxing and Wrestling Commission.

Carlos González Hinojosa resigned from the presidency of the Reynosa Boxing and Wrestling Commission , after 42 years linked to this organization which he headed in three different periods.

His last appearance as president was at the boxing event on September 30th, held at the UAT Multidisciplinary Gymnasium. The former head of the sport expressed his desire to give an opportunity to the young talent that is coming up strong.

“I left the position on October 1st. I joined the Commission in 1974 and my first term as president was in 1976. I decided to resign because I'm too well-known now, it's been many years, my time is up and it's time to give space to new generations. We have more people who know about boxing, who should take the reins, it's enough,” commented the former president.

Now Mayor Maki Ortiz will be in charge of appointing the new head of the local Boxing and Wrestling Commission.

González Hinojosa will continue his work as president of FECOMBOX until the next convention, but will seek to remain as a supervisor of world championship fights for the WBC as long as his body holds out.

Always forward-thinking, Don Carlos strongly criticized the municipal governments, accusing them of having little interest in a sport that he asserted has always brought honor to the city of Reynosa.

“During Pepe Elías’s term, I didn’t receive an appointment. They never bothered to approach or look after boxing. I did it because I had to keep going. The truth is that boxing has never interested the mayors. Boxing is what put Reynosa on the national and international map,” he stated.
