"Former AAU national champion Carlos Palomino of Los Angeles scored a 6th round knockout over Nelson Ruiz, the welterweight champion of Venezuela, in a scheduled 10 round bout Thursday night. Palomino, behind in the early rounds, battered the tired Ruiz with wild left and rights in the 6th round and had his Venezuelan foe pinned on the ropes. Teddy Bentham, Ruiz' trainer, threw in a towel from Ruiz' corner and referee George Latka halted the fight at 2:24 awarding a knockout to Palomino." -United Press International
