Carlos Vanneste lost to Roy Askevold by KO in round 3 of 8

  • Date: 1964-12-11
  • Location: Nidarohallen, Trondheim, Norway

  • Middleweights Carlos Van Neste, Belgium and Roy Askvold,Norway met in a rematch. The Belgian made it clear in the first two rounds that he wanted badly to gain revenge. With dazzling speed he hit Askvold in the face with volleys of punches, dancing away when his opponent attacked. This was a different Van Neste than the passive boxer Oslo saw five months earlier. But in the third round he let his guard down, very Muhammed Ali- like. Askvold was right on the spot with a left hook and a right cross which sent the Belgian down. He was up at 8, but stumbled immediately to his corner where he threw his hands up and retired. Van Neste however made it clear to everyone in sight that he withdrew because of a hand injury. The ring doctor confirmed the injury, but Askvold was declared a winner by KO.
