Cecil Hudson 145 lbs fought without result Freddie Dixon 145 lbs by NC in round 6 of 10

  • Date: 1944-12-13
  • Location: Auditorium, Oakland, California, USA
  • Referee: Billy Burke

After both fighters had been warned by referee Billy Burke that they were not fighting well, Hudson went down for a no-count early in the 6th and from a left to the jaw shortly after. When Burke refused to count following the second knockdown, Hudson was pulled out by cornerman Charles Kelson. The ringside physician contradicted Kelson's claim that Hudson had suffered a broken jaw. Burke would declare the fight no contest, stating that Hudson was trying to throw the fight. This opinion was shared by George Moore, manager of Henry Armstrong, who said that he had heard rumors of 'funny betting' before the fight but Hudson had told him there was nothing to it.
