"Panamanian Eusebio Pedroza, 126, stopped champion Cecilio Lastra, 126, of Spain in the 13th round Saturday night to capture the WBA featherweight crown. Referee Larry Rozadilla of Los Angeles stopped the match 2:25 into the round after Pedroza had downed the champion three times and left his face a bleeding pulp. Lastra also was down for the mandatory eight-count in the 3rd round in the first heavy action of the fight when Pedroza landed a lunging left to the head. The blow closed the champion's right eye. Pedroza was well ahead on all cards when the fight ended to the joy of a hometown crowd of about 15,000 in the new Panama gym." -Associated Press
