"The veteran Chalky Wright scored a stunning upset last night over the clever, hard-hitting Enrique Bolanos, Mexico City lightweight, winning a split decision in 10 rounds of action-packed fighting. Wright knocked Bolanos down for a no-count in the 1st round and sent him spinning to the canvas in the 3rd with a terrific body blow. Bolanos claimed a foul and referee Charlie Randolph called a five-minute rest before ordering the fight to resume. The last seven rounds were jammed with punch-trading. Bolanos was badly cut up by the end and was bleeding from the nose with one eye closed. Wright emerged without any apparent damage." -Associated Press

  • Referee Randolph penalized Wright 2 points in the 3rd round for a low blow.
