The Los Angeles Times described this as the worst decision given at the Olympic Auditorium in many months. The Times gave Wright nine of the ten rounds, with Hansford getting an even share in one round. Hansford was knocked down for a two-count in the 3rd round, as Wright controlled the bout with his left hand. A left hook from Wright cut Hansford's right eye in the 10th round.
The Hollywood Citizen-News also felt this was a terrible decision, giving Wright seven rounds.
