Charles Scioli

Charles 'Skeets' Scioli was for many years a fixture on the Boston boxing scene, as President of the New England Amateur Athletic Union during the 1950s through the 1970s, and as such after it became a separate amateur sports governing body know as the New England Amateur Boxing Federation, now named USA Boxing, New England. His last term in office was from 1996 to 2000. Over all those years he served as a national delegate and a Clerk to the national conventions and meetings, was the director for many local, regional and national championship boxing tournaments held in old Boston Garden and other major sports arenas. Throughout the course of his long life, he directed hundreds of amateur boxing events. Reinaldo Oliveira once described Skeets as the "first face I remember in boxing." Men in their 60s and 70s became boys again when visiting with Skeets and he would shock them by remembering something personal about their performances in ring. He numbered many champions and near-champions among his friends, e.g.,Rocky Marciano (who he used to give pointers to when first beginning his boxing career), Sal Bartolo, Tony DeMarco and Marvin Hagler.

Scioli died November 30, 2010, at age 97.
