Charley Burley 153 lbs beat Jack Chase 160 lbs by KO at 0:18 in round 9 of 15
- Date: 1944-04-06
- Location: Legion Stadium, Hollywood, California, USA
- Referee: Abe Roth
"Thrown out of Hollywood Stadium for a lackadaisical performance nine months ago, Charley Burley made dramatic amends in the same ring last night by cold-cocking Jack Chase in nine rounds to win the California middleweight championship. Burley outboxed and outhit Chase so easily that the latter looked like a novice in his hands. Floored for a nine count from two rights under the heart and a blow to the jaw in the 4th round, Chase got off the floor to make a game fight of it for four more rounds. But in the 9th Chase took a series of rights to the head which felled him flat on his face. He attempted to crawl to his feet at the ten count, but collapsed and had to be helped to his corner." -Los Angeles Times
