Chartchai Chionoi 109 lbs beat Fritz Chervet 108 lbs by RTD at 3:00 in round 4 of 15

"Fritz Chervet of Switzerland, was battling Thailand's Chartchai Chionoi for the vacant WBA flyweight title before 12,000 fans in Bangkok when the ring physician deemed a cut Chervet had suffered as too deep to allow him to continue and ordered the bout stopped at the end of the 4th round. The Swiss claimed the two-inch deep cut had come from a butt and protested the decision. However, it seemed the cut had come from a right hand by Chionoi during the 4th round. Chartchai kept the pressure on from the opening bell and staggered Chervet in the 3rd with a right, scored during a furious exchange. Although blood poured from the wound, the Swiss gamely fought back. However, when the doctor insisted on stopping it, there was nothing more Chervet or his manager, Charley Buhler, could do." -INTERNATIONAL BOXING, October 1973 issue

  • Chervet's cut would require 7 stitches to close.
